Pol Roger 2012 Vintage Rose

£85.95

Founded in 1849, Pol Roger remains small, family-owned, fiercely independent and unparalleled in its reputation for quality.

Pol Roger has an unrivalled reputation for its Vintage Champagnes; produced only in the best years and from the very best vineyards. So connoisseurs have been eagerly awaiting this release. Despite being quite stressful and complicated in the vineyards, 2012 has been described by respected wine critic Jancis Robinson as “an exceptional vintage in Champagne”, particularly for the Pinot Noir that dominates this rosé blend.

Still riddled by hand – a real rarity in Champagne now – this is both traditional and a future classic in the making. The Pinot Noir and Chardonnay come from 20 Premiers and Grands Crus on the Montagne de Reims and the Côte des Blancs, to which additional Pinot Noir from Bouzy, Ambonnay and Cumières that is vinified red is added to give that wonderful delicate colour.

Abundant strawberry, raspberry, cherry and pomegranate fruit, combined with a racy freshness and complex notes of toasty brioche, tangerine peel, blossom and spices. Although a fine choice for celebrations and romantic occasions, this is also very much a food wine. Consider pairing with summer fruits, rare duck or lamb, game, smoked salmon, brunch, cherry tomato salads and summer barbeques.
